NAD+ for Sale: The Grade Line a Repackager Omits

A listing that names its grade is making a checkable statement. A listing that describes the coenzyme in loving detail and never names the grade has told you something too, and FDA has documented where that omission ends up.

NAD+ for sale, as a phrase, returns thousands of pages that are almost identical. Same compound, same stock photograph of a white powder, same paragraph about cellular energy. What separates them is not what they say but what they decline to say, and there is one line whose absence does more work than every present line combined.

That line is grade. A listing that states pharmaceutical grade has made a checkable claim it can be held to. A listing that never raises the subject has not made a claim, and in this supply chain the unstated default is not the one buyers assume. FDA has documented precisely where that default ends up, and it ended up inside licensed compounding pharmacies rather than in the back of a van.

Each row is something a listing either states or does not. The third column is the part worth internalising, because omission is the normal case and it is not neutral.

The repackager problem, in FDA’s own words

The centrepiece of any honest article about NAD+ for sale is a compounding notice whose content is current as of 30 October 2024. It is short and it is unusually specific for an agency communication, which is why it is worth quoting rather than paraphrasing.

FDA stated that it is aware of compounders using food grade nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide sold by repackagers to make intravenous products. It stated that ingredients identified as food grade are not suitable for compounding sterile drugs without appropriate processing, due to the high risk of contamination with microbes and endotoxins. And it reported that it had received adverse event reports following use of NAD+ injectable drugs, including severe chills, shaking, vomiting and fatigue with some requiring medical treatment, adding that these reactions are consistent with excessive levels of endotoxins.

Three things follow for anyone reading a listing. First, the failure is not counterfeiting. Nobody in that account was sold the wrong molecule; the molecule was NAD+ and the problem travelled with it. Second, the failure occurred at the point in the chain with the most professional oversight, which means a consumer facing product page is not a place where the question resolves itself. Third, the agency asked repackagers to clearly identify on the label any ingredient intended for use in foods or dietary supplements, which is a request that would be unnecessary if the labelling were currently unambiguous.

FDA also encouraged compounders to know their bulk and excipient suppliers. That is the transferable instruction. A listing that cannot tell you what grade its material is has, by definition, not answered the question its own regulator asked professionals to answer.

Testing scope: a panel is not a certificate and a percentage is not a panel

Sellers use the word tested as though it were binary. It is a scope question. A typical research certificate reports identity by mass spectrometry and purity by reversed phase HPLC, expressed as an area percentage at a chosen wavelength. Both are real measurements and neither is capable of detecting bacterial endotoxin, which is a lipopolysaccharide fragment measured by a completely separate assay in endotoxin units.

That is the whole trick of the food grade case. Material can be genuinely 99 percent pure NAD+ and carry a pyrogen load that would fail any sterile specification, because purity and pyrogenicity are orthogonal properties. The purity figure is not misleading. It is answering a question nobody was worried about.

The bacterial endotoxins test is routine, standardised and not expensive relative to the material. FDA maintains a guidance document on pyrogen and endotoxins testing, revised in March 2026, covering how the test is applied and validated, and independent comparisons of the available assay formats, including recombinant alternatives to the traditional lysate reagent, have been published in the pharmaceutical quality literature. A seller that has not commissioned it has made a commercial decision, not run into a technical wall.

The two figures worth asking for alongside purity

  • Bacterial endotoxin, with units. A result expressed in endotoxin units per milligram, with the method named. A yes or no answer without a number is not a result.
  • Water content. Determined by Karl Fischer titration on a solid. Water is mass on the label that is not compound in the vial, and it does not appear anywhere in an HPLC area percentage.

Quantity: why NAD+ listings are written in grams

NAD+ is not sold on the scale the rest of a research catalogue runs on. Peptide vials hold five or ten milligrams; NAD+ listings are commonly a full gram, and the presentation disclosed on this page is 1,000 mg in one vial at $104.00, reduced to $52.00 with the code PEPTIDEDECK. The reason to fix the denominator is that a per milligram figure for a gram scale product collapses to a fraction of a cent and stops being usable for comparison. It also invites a comparison against peptide pricing that means nothing, since the two are different classes of substance sold at different scales for different purposes. Vials, injection, powder: what the phrasing does and does not change

Listings for the same material appear under several headings. NAD+ vials for sale, NAD+ injection for sale and plain NAD for sale are largely interchangeable descriptions of a research presentation, and the phrasing tells you about the seller’s traffic rather than about the contents. None of those phrases is a statement of sterility, and none of them upgrades a research chemical into a preparation intended for administration.

Where the wording does matter is in what it implies about processing. A listing that calls itself an injection while offering no sterility or endotoxin data has made a claim its own documentation does not support, and that mismatch is more informative than either the claim or the silence would be alone. The complete certificate that still leaves gaps

Assume the best case: the listing names pharmaceutical grade, the certificate is tied to your lot, and identity, purity, water content and endotoxin are all reported. Three things remain outside the document’s reach, and a careful reader should hold them in view.

  • Time. A certificate is a snapshot of a sample on a test date. It says nothing about how the remainder of the lot was stored in the months between testing and dispatch.
  • Sampling. The analysis was run on a portion of a batch. Homogeneity is assumed rather than demonstrated on a document of this kind.
  • Everything after the laboratory. Filling, sealing, labelling and handling all occur downstream of the test, and the certificate has no visibility into any of them.

None of that argues against asking for the document. It argues against treating a complete certificate as a guarantee rather than as the best available evidence, which is the distinction this site exists to keep.

Grading the claims a listing makes

Product copy for NAD+ tends to blend two very different tiers of claim into one paragraph, and separating them is most of the work of reading a listing critically.

The first row is real and it is also the row that does the persuasive work in almost every listing, precisely because it is true. NAD+ metabolism and its role in cellular processes during ageing is a well reviewed field. What does not follow from any of it is that an infusion or injection produces a clinical outcome, and a listing that slides from the first row to the fourth in a single paragraph has performed a substitution rather than an argument.

A reading order for any NAD+ product page

Start at the bottom. Scroll past the biochemistry, which is true everywhere and therefore discriminates nothing, and look for the grade statement, the lot number and the testing scope. If all three are present, read the copy. If none of them are, the copy is not telling you about this product, it is telling you about a molecule.

What should an NAD+ listing state that most do not?
The grade of the material and the scope of the testing behind it. Most listings name the compound, the quantity and the price, and stop. A listing worth trusting states whether the material is pharmaceutical grade, publishes a certificate tied to a lot number, and names the assays that certificate covers, including whether a bacterial endotoxin result is among them. The absence of a grade statement is the single most common gap and the most consequential one.
Why does food grade NAD+ matter if the compound is the same?
Because grade describes what the material was released against, not what molecule it is. FDA has stated it is aware of compounders using food grade NAD+ sold by repackagers to make intravenous products, and that ingredients identified as food grade are not suitable for compounding sterile drugs without appropriate processing, due to the high risk of contamination with microbes and endotoxins. Entirely genuine NAD+ can carry a microbial burden nobody ever measured, because for its intended market nobody needed to.
What does a lot number on a listing actually prove?
On its own, nothing. It becomes evidence when the same string appears on the certificate you are given and on the vial you receive. That chain of three matching identifiers is what turns a document into a statement about your purchase. Where a seller publishes a single certificate covering a product rather than a lot, the document may be entirely genuine and still describe material you will never hold.
How large is a vial of NAD+ compared with a peptide vial?
Different by roughly two orders of magnitude, which is why price comparisons between them are meaningless. NAD+ listings are commonly written in grams, and the presentation disclosed on this page is 1,000 mg in a single vial. Peptide catalogues sell five and ten milligram vials. Does research use only labelling mean the material is untested?
It means neither tested nor untested. It is a declaration of intended use, stating that the seller supplies the material for laboratory work and not for human consumption, and it carries no analytical content at all. Testing scope is a separate question you answer by reading the certificate. The label does have diagnostic value in the breach: a seller that publishes dosing schedules alongside research use language has contradicted itself in public.
Should an NAD+ listing state storage conditions?
Yes, and it is a reasonable proxy for whether the seller handles the product as a controlled item or as inventory. Ask specifically whether the vial contains solid material or a prepared solution, because those are different stability problems and a listing that does not distinguish them has not thought about the question. A seller that publishes storage guidance for its catalogue is at least operating a specification.
