Why half off is plausible, and why that is the wrong thing to be impressed by

The $75.00 list price is already presented as a reduction from a $89.99 reference figure. So the code is a second markdown applied to a number that was set with markdowns in mind, which is ordinary in a market with no reimbursement layer to negotiate against.

The consequence is that percentage off is a statement about a supplier anchoring policy, not about value. Two suppliers advertising 50 percent off tell you only that both chose to set a list price twice what they intend to collect. The number that survives that problem is the final cost per labelled milligram, because it is the one you pay.

There is a supply-side reason the arithmetic works out for the seller as well. A 16-residue peptide is a short solid-phase synthesis, and the fixed costs that dominate a research-supply operation are batch costs rather than per-vial costs: one synthesis, one purification, one set of analytical runs, then a fill that produces many vials. Third-party testing is charged per lot, not per vial, so it is a smaller share of the price of each vial the larger the batch is. None of that tells you what any particular supplier spends, and we have not seen their numbers, but it does explain why a large headline reduction is not evidence that something has gone wrong.

Sanity-checking a deal in this market therefore runs in a fixed order. Establish the final per-milligram figure. Establish that the seller publishes a certificate for the specific lot you will be sent. Only then let a discount decide between two options that have already cleared both. A code is a tiebreaker, not a reason.

What a code changes, and what only a certificate can settle

A discount changes a line on an invoice. It does not change the contents of the vial, which were fixed when the batch was synthesised, purified, filled and tested. Four measurements carry that information and none of them is affected by what you paid.

Purity is reported as area under the main peak in a reverse-phase HPLC chromatogram, detected at 214 nm because that wavelength reads the amide bond and so responds to peptide material broadly rather than to aromatic residues alone. Identity is confirmed by mass spectrometry against the theoretical mass for the 16-residue sequence MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR, approximately 2,174 Da. Water content comes from a Karl Fischer titration on the lyophilised cake. Endotoxin load comes from a Limulus amoebocyte lysate assay, the method family the FDA addresses in its pyrogen and endotoxins guidance.

Two things make those numbers worth reading rather than skimming. First, a result is interpretable only against a stated method, the principle formalised in ICH Q2(R2) for regulated analytical work and entirely voluntary here. Second, a certificate has to carry the lot number that will be on your vial. A generic product-line document with no lot number, no laboratory name and no report date is a marketing asset, not a record.

One line is almost never present and changes how the price should be read. Peptides purified by reverse-phase chromatography come off the column as trifluoroacetate salts, and MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR has three arginines, a lysine and a free N-terminus, so it can carry several counterions at roughly 114 Da each against a peptide mass near 2,174 Da. That fraction of the weighed 10 mg is salt rather than peptide. A stated counterion content or net peptide content figure resolves it; in its absence, $3.75 per labelled milligram is an upper bound on value rather than a measurement of it.

The vendor on this page publishes certificates from two independent laboratories per lot, Kovera Labs batch 24-05260628 and MZ Biolabs batch 24-01260229. That is the part of the offer that took work. The 50 percent is the part that took a database entry.

Where a MOTS-c promo code listing usually comes from

Coupon aggregators generate a page per merchant automatically, fill it with strings scraped from anywhere they have appeared, and leave it up long after the strings stop working. Success-rate badges on those pages are generated the same way and are not measurements of anything.

Two patterns are worth recognising. A page listing eight or nine live codes for a small merchant is padding, because merchants that size run one or two promotions at a time. The only clinical record in the vicinity belongs to a different molecule. CohBar took CB4211, a MOTS-c analogue, through a Phase 1a/1b safety and pharmacokinetics study (NCT03998514), which completed in April 2021; the company later wound down. There is no Phase 3 programme for MOTS-c and no large human efficacy trial, so the retatrutide-style trial framing you may have seen on our other code page does not carry over.

A coupon does not move any of that. Material sold for laboratory research is not manufactured, tested or released to the standards that apply to an approved medicine, at any price, and nothing here describes or implies human use.
